Computers of the Future

Computers have come a long way in the past. They have evolved from huge mechanically driven calculator type contraptions, capable of only simple addition and subtraction, to huge network systems built with the highest grade computer chips and micro technology.

Computers have also shrunken in size. Do you remember back in the 60s when big units were huge? Now, a big unit comes in a smaller-sized box. How computers have changed in performance and size has been an amazing thing to watch over the years.

But for those of you who believe that computers are done evolving, well, the show might just not be over yet. Computers are getting smaller than ever, and are faster than ever. Do any of you own a Blackberry or iPhone? These devices are perfect examples of how far computers have come… these are basically computers that fit right into your pocket.

They hold many gigabytes worth of music, they have countless apps, they are capable of text messaging, emailing, and even for accessing information like Google maps. In a way, you can have an entire network available right in your pocket with one of these devices. There are some people who run their entire companies with these tiny computers.

This is not so difficult to believe for those of us who are tech-savvy in this new generation… like high school kids who don’t know what life is like without these devices… but for those of us who grew up with those big machines of the 70s, well, sometimes it is hard for us to wrap our minds around the fact that cell phones are many times more powerful than those old contraptions.

Computers hold a lot of potential… but how much? Well, the chances are really limitless. How far will our imaginations go? This seems to be the real limit… not the technology.
